Poetry about Greed

Let me start by saying, this is not my normal poetry related post. I love writing poems, but sometimes I have to vent about the meaning of my poetry.

The reason I love to write, or type, is because it enables me to express my feelings, which can be shared and archived for the future. Many times I will be sitting, and start ranting in my head. I then start to create lovely poems, which feel more natural when I am not trying to write. Unfortunately, in those moments I do not write them down. So when I sit to write, I can somewhat remember the basis of what my poem consisted of. I do wish I could get the initial poem I was thinking about down on paper. If I stop to get a pen and paper, I will lose train of thought, and the poem in my head will come to an end.

I use to primarily write about love, and heartbreak. I currently focus on greed. I think the world we live in today is consumed by the excessive amount of “WANT” for more items we do not need. People are struggling everyday just to survive. I am not struggling myself, but I have members of my family who work extremely hard. Harder than anyone I know. But, since they made poor decisions when they were younger, they can not get ahead.

My reasoning for writing about the selfishness people contribute to this world is because I know what it’s like to come from nothing, and watch people throw away their money on useless stuff. If I have enough money where I can splurge, and buy unnecessary items on a routine basis, why do that? If I can help someone better their life, as well as their circle of influence, I am going to take that route. I don’t mean handing out stuff for free just because someone wants something. However, if someone is making an effort to be successful, and trying to better their family situation, but can’t because of the way the world works, I am going to lend a helping hand.

Hopefully more people will continue to act as I do. I know greed takes hold of our minds; and it is unhealthy. More people should try to get in touch with their empathetic side, and the world will be a better place.
